Find a Telecommuting job to save on gas!

11 Jul

Sometimes thinking out of the box can be the best way to save gas and help the worlds energy problems. While you may not realize it, you might have the option to save a lot of resources and money by switching your job to a telecommuting opportunity. If that isn’t an option there could be an even better job out there that also has the benefit of telecommuting.

You already know that most in the freelance fields can work from home, or have a virtual office anywhere that they go. The two most common of these careers are writing and photography, though freelance illustrators are also numerous. You don’t have to have one of these careers to work from home, however, as there are some great types of telecommuting employment opportunities out there, and some can be found where you already work whether you realize it or not.

If you think you have a job that could turn into telecommuting employment, you have to have a strong case to take to your boss. There are many advantages to both of you, but you should focus on the ones that are to the benefit of the company. When someone takes some or all of their work to their home, the company saves money on space, electricity, and many other onsite expenses that all companies have for those that work in their space. If you think you have the perfect home environment for working from home, bring that up as well. Things could easily go in your favor.

You can try to look for telecommuting employment when looking for a new job, but the reality is that most of these come within your current employment. Not everyone can work from home, as some jobs require a person to be in the office. However, some can be part-time at home, and some can even be full time if you have the right position. Even companies that have never considered this before may find that they have one or two employees that start a trend. This can be good for both employee and company, and that should be your selling point.

There are some times when you may want to think twice about asking for telecommuting employment for your current job. If you have young children at home, this may not be the best idea. Some think they can work from home and take their children from daycare or other childcare, but it is never a good idea. You have to treat your hours at home as if you were truly in the office to be an effective employee. Think about all aspects of telecommuting employment before you try, as you may find you lose your job if your performance goes down in any way. Also remember that you may still have to go in for meetings and other important events, so that should be something you can easily swing when needed.

We are in a situation of world change that could lead into mass telecommuting. The internet makes jobs that once require close quarters to perform tasks (primarily due to communication) easy to do from anywhere in the world. This is a benefit on both time and energy resources, yet not all companies are truly taking advantage of it as of yet. We implore you to try and shift your boss’ thinking and start a new trend in telecommuting.
